Not Too Long Ago

Dir. Charlotte Barrett

"Austin is a director's dream and a joy to work with. He gives you more than what you wanted. He gives you something that you didn't even know was possible"
- Director Charlotte Barrett (2005), on Not Too Long Ago

Charlotte and Sean Fallon are regular collaborators as director/producers, so after doing Man Child almost a year before, Not Too Long Ago was a definite in the pipeline. After undergoing a somewhat difficult post-production at no fault of their own, the filmmakers were excited to finally hear a score. It didn't take long before the music was all complete.

This film was a fairy tale, but told in a contemporary setting. Perhaps more atypical, however, was its lack of a clear cut 'good vs. evil' story; the characters never fit into typical fable archetypes. As such, the score needed to try and accentuate their tragic rise and fall, while necessarily not taking sides. What resulted was a nearly wall-to-wall orchestral score, lush with strings and celeste as befits a fairy tale.
