Love Parade
Dir. Srdjan DobicLove Parade was the second film I scored for Srdjan (the first, Alter Ego). Every little detail about this film represented an about-face from our first collaboration; the story, the style, the acting, the music - all of it was a pretty significant shift. An awesome shift! Whereas Alter Ego was all about the drama and psychological trauma of its characters, this one was about the seductive game-playing all couples seem to have in common. The basic story centers around two totally separate couples. The first is in a restuarant, where the man is pressuring his wife to turn the heat up. Being so public as it is, they start arguing about it until she decides to take the upper hand, even going so far as climbing onto the table and flirting with both her husband and the waiter. After a while, we flash to the second couple. They look a bit younger, unmarried, but with all the same issues. The seduction and game-playing, though different, is apparent from the start. The film culminates when the two couples happen to pass each other on the street, truly the same in both their joys and frustrations. The score is extremely sparse, only coming in for the very opening and closing moments. In the beginning, to really capture the energetic seduction, it's a rousing Spanish-style dance with just a hint of a rock groove. The final scene is scored in an almost opposite way, as a solo piano tinkling through a pretty melody as we connect the two couples.
