Ataxia

By Billy Tran

This film came about as a video art project of Billy Tran's. In his own words, the film was "an abstract piece intertwining dreams and reality in order to illustrate desire, inaction and loss."

The musical approach was simple, in part because of the three-day timeframe I was given. Despite that, the film was fun because it allowed me to write in a quasi-tonal, non-accoustic style that I usually don't get to do. I created basic sound worlds for the various ideas in the film: the real world, the dream world, etc. For most of the film I intentionally played off of the on-screen images (the opposite of my normal approach), for example scoring a shot of a cello playing with a low, tone-less rumble. The cue presented here occurs during a series of digitally manipulated shots of a ticking clock.
