Alter Ego

Dir. Srdjan Dobic

“While in post production on this film, I was looking for a composer who would write the score to accentuate the particular mood in each scene and yet also create an overall atmosphere. Collaborating with Austin has done just that. Every single note has its place and together they are not only harmonious but tie the story together. He knows exactly what kind of score the film needs.”
- Director Srdjan Dobic (2005), on Alter Ego

This film is a drama, depicting how three separate characters (two sisters and a man caught in between them) deal with a traumatic event. To represent their sort of 'inner dialogue' as they sort everything out, each is seen talking to a man - the alter ego. As the film progresses each character comes to their own conclusion about how to keep on living, which culminates with a harsh reminder from the fates that we can't escape the consequences of our actions.

The score runs start to finish through the entire film. It centers around a simple 4-note motive, most frequently in the piano. It was scored using electronics, with the exception of a lone cello.
