Paris in Spring
By Billy TranParis in Spring was my fifth collaboration with Billy, and unquestionably my favorite of the lot. Rather than dissecting a psychological principle, or some more or less 'cerebral' concept, Paris sought only to reflect on life. In particular, those who simply sit back and watch life pass them by. The film doesn't really attempt to make a value judgement on these people; instead, we merely watch and, ideally, self-reflect. Billy's sole direction was to ponder the film's nostalgic tone, and freely interpret it without any real hitpoints or narrative arc. Because of other immediate projects, my timeframe on this film was extremely tight, so I sat down and wrote the entire score in one sitting. It revolves around several simple ideas, realized electronically, though reminiscent of a woodwind-heavy chamber orchestra. Click here to go to Billy Tran's homepage |
